Richard E. “Dick” Boots, age 74 of Marengo, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. His cremains will be buried next to his wife in Springfield, MO. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with final arrangements.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Sandy Lorenz (Kelly) of Marengo; a grandson Jim Starkweather (Val) of Marengo; several great-grandchildren; a brother Ken Boots of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Darlene Crew of Oxford, and Joan Wassmer of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Mary, a daughter Marsha Armstrong, and a grandson Jack Starkweather.
Richard Eugene Boots was born June 6, 1940 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Wilbur E. Boots and Vada Coleman Boots. He graduated from Viola High School in 1959 and married Mary Eloise Tabor on June 16, 1967 in Lancaster, Missouri. Richard was employed as a truck driver for many years, and operated a lawncare business in Missouri for several more years. He returned to Iowa in the late 1990’s.
Richard enjoyed watching old western movies, and writing poetry. He had a soft spot for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also enjoyed the companionship of Mitzie his dog for many years.
