Gene Cronbaugh, age 81 of Belle Plaine, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Burial: Koszta Cemetery with Military Honors by Victor American Legion Post 54. Visitation: 3 to 7 P.M. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his wife Joan; his children, Randy Cronbaugh (Ethel) of Belle Plaine, Pam Noyes (John) of Marengo, and Rodney Cronbaugh (Tina Campbell) of Belle Plaine; five grandchildren Troy, Crystal, Lisa, and Ryan Cronbaugh, and Katie Kinzenbaw (Darrin); two great-grandchildren Blayze and Brynnlee Cronbaugh; a sister-in-law Janet Vincent (Clark) and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry Cronbaugh and wife Helen, a nephew Scott Cronbaugh, and two brothers-in-law, William Benishek and wife Juanita, and James Lake.
Eugene Forest Cronbaugh was born May 26, 1932 on his family’s farm near Koszta, Iowa to Laurence and Wilma Gorsch Cronbaugh. He received his education in the Iowa County schools and attended Marengo High School. He served in the United States Army for two years. Gene married Joan Benishek on March 19, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Belle Plaine. He was a life long farmer in Iowa County. He was a member of the Victor American Legion Post 54 and the Farm Bureau. Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He was a Chicago Cubs fan, along with cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
