Charla J. Farnum, age 74 of Eddyville, formerly of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Monroe County Hospital in Albia, Iowa. Memorial Service: 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 23, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Inurnment will be in the Victor Memorial Cemetery, Victor, Iowa. Visitation: Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 1 p.m. until service time with the family present after 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Charla is survived by three sons, Dr. David Farnum of Estherville, Don Farnum and wife Kathy of Brooklyn, and Robert Farnum and wife Krista of Eddyville; and three grandchildren, Graye Farnum of Ames, Payton Farnum of Estherville, and Mika Farnum of Eddyville. Also surviving are a sister Vicky Rhoades and husband Fred of Victor, and a special friend, Marvin Roshek of Victor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne in 2007, and four sisters, Judy, Carole, Florence, and Cheryl in infancy.
Charla Jeanine Hewitt was born April 4, 1940 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Alyce Mitchell Hewitt. She graduated from Victor High School with the Class of 1958, and married Wayne Forest Farnum on December 10, 1958 in Newton, Iowa. Charla worked with Beeline Fashions clothing sales for 10 years, and then went to work in the advertising department at KGRN from 1983 – 2014. She also worked with KTWA in Ottumwa, and the KZAT radio station in Tama. Charla was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, and the Poweshiek County Republican Women. In her free time she enjoyed breeding dogs, shopping, and reading books. She loved her family and especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.
