Evelyn C. Griffin, age 87 of Marion, formerly of Williamsburg, died Friday, September 12, 2014 at The Villages Assisted Living in Marion. Private Graveside Services will be held Monday, September 15, 2014, with Rev. Sonda Kirsteatter officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Larry and wife Debbie of Cedar Rapids, and a grandson that she adored, Scott of Iowa City. Also surviving are her siblings, Murray Evans and wife Lynn of Williamsburg, Carl Evans of Solon, Ruth Baker of Iowa City, and Gladys Beasley of Marengo, a sister-in-law Bonnie Evans of Rock Island, a brother-in-law, Larry Raasch and wife Linda of Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene in 2009, a sister, Lucille Raasch and a brother Ed Evans.
Evelyn Clara Evans was born July 19, 1927 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Clara Goss Evans. She attended the Iowa county schools and married Gene Franklin Griffin on November 1, 1952 in Fairfield, Iowa. Evelyn worked at several businesses in the Williamsburg area, lastly at Amana Refrigeration for over 20 years. Following her retirement, Evelyn and Gene enjoyed winters in Florida. In later years, Evelyn enjoyed watching the Cubs (who she always thought the umpires were against), playing cards and going to the casino.
She was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cindy Hanawalt for her compassionate care, and Diana and the staff at the Villages Assisted Living Facility for making Mom’s final years so comfortable and enjoyable.
