Jerry L. Johnson, age 55 of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 18, 2015, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. Brent de Silva and Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, July 17, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Danette; his children, Robert (Krystal) of Brooklyn, Danielle Haines (James) of Brooklyn, Becky Johnson of Brooklyn, and Jerrun of Ankeny; and 12 grandchildren, Kaitlin, Jacob, Angel, Zanielle, Izaak, Jessica, Anna, Damien, Samuel, Elias, Daniel and Ash. Also surviving are his father, Vern (Mary) Johnson of Hampton; his mother Bernadine Vance Johnson of Altoona; and three sisters, Wanda Tiedt of West Union, Patty Steubert of Olatha, KS, and Lisa Johnson of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Riley and Abraham, his father and mother-in-law Clarence and Anna Schwab, and brothers-in-law, Tim Kingkade, Keevin Johnson, and Edward Crosby.
Jerry LeRoy Johnson was born September 25, 1959 in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Vern and Bernadine Vance Johnson. He received his education in the Allison Bristol schools and attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Des Moines where he received his degree in Automotive-Diesel Truck Technology. Jerry married Danette Kay Schwab on June 2, 1978 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont. He was employed as a farm hand and also as a driver for Manatts, Inc. for 26 seasons. Jerry liked to remodel and build houses, refinish furniture, and work on cars. He enjoyed camping, Ford Mustangs, John Deere, and Tres, his St. Bernard. Jerry was a loving father and husband and cherished the time he could spend with his family. He also was a wonderful foster Dad to many.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn and the Poweshiek Masonic Lodge #174.
