Ross McCulla, age 88, of Grinnell, Iowa, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service with Masonic rites will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Rev. John Dodds and Rev. Brent De Silva officiating. Burial will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. until service time, Thursday, May 5, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn or St. Francis Manor Foundation in Grinnell.
Ross is survived by his wife Irene of Grinnell; three sons, David (Joy) McCulla of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Linda) McCulla of Afton, Oklahoma, and Greg (Barb) McCulla of Pella; seven grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ross McCulla was born June 7, 1927, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of William and Annie Ross McCulla. He graduated from the Brooklyn High School in 1944. He married Irene Healey on August 10, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo. He farmed the family farm until 1979. Ross was the executive director of the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, in Bettendorf from 1979-1989. After retiring in 1989, he moved back to the Brooklyn area. In 2003, he and Irene moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell. He was a 76 year member of Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Ross was a 50 plus year member of Order of the Eastern Star and Corinthian Masonic Lodge of Brooklyn. He was also a member of the Montezuma Masonic Lodge and was a Thirty-Third Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Master of Kadosh in 1989, York Rite Masonic Bodies at Oskaloosa, Red Cross of Constantine Sovereign in 1985, and of the Research Lodge No. 2. Ross was the Grand Master of Masons for the state of Iowa from 1976-1977, was the recipient of DeMolay Legion of Honor and was president of the Brooklyn Little League for 10 years.
