Janice I. Meier, age 79 of Marengo, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, Iowa. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 3, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Janice is survived by three sons, Steven (Donna) of Marengo, Greg (Pam) of Marengo, and Scott (Beth) of Maryland Heights, MO; a daughter, Julie Storck of Marengo; 12 grandchildren, Allison Kittelson (Josh) VanCouver, WA, Marcy DeMeulenaere (Dale) Marengo, Daniel Meier (Mallory) Marengo, Chase Meier, Marengo, Emily Meier (Justin) Williamsburg, Adam Meier, Marengo, Jordan, Travis, and Taylor Storck of Marengo, and Madeline, Evan, and Joseph Meier of Maryland Heights, MO; 8 great-grandchildren, Bodin, Jack, Gunnar, and Ryder Kittelson, Kadynce, Anna, and Gavin DeMeulenaere, and Kinslee Meier; a sister-in-law Janice M. Meier of Marengo; brothers-in-law Dennis (Glenda) Meier of Cedar Rapids, Cliff Danielson of East Moline, IL, and Gene Weih of Tipton and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Allan A. Meier in 2002, a son David in 1991, two brothers, Robert and Richard Bruckman, a sister Marilyn Morehead, and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
Janice Irene Bruckman was born November 9, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Rhoda Jessen Bruckman. She graduated from Calamus High School in 1951. Janice married Allan Alfred August Meier on September 26, 1953 at Faith Lutheran Church in Calamus. They resided in Dixon, Iowa until 1959, when they moved to Marengo. Jan was a homemaker and mother, but also worked outside the home at different times. She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1951 -1953, and held several retail jobs at Younkers, VonMaur, Carters and OshKosh. Her special joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid Cubs and Hawkeyes fan. She played bridge with several clubs over the years. Her one special treat for the last several years was to go to the Tama casino and play the slot machines.
Jan was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, and the Marengo Legion Auxiliary.
