Sarah F. Roggentien, age 87 of Marengo, formerly of Williamsburg, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. with Minister Wayne Walling officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established.
Sarah is survived by her children, Mark James Roggentien of Chandler, AZ, Jed L Roggentien of Columbus, NE, and Kimberly Sue Jack (Bruce) of Hartwick, IA; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister Elizabeth Carpenter of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald in 1988, and a sister, Vera Skomp.
Sarah Frances was born October 24, 1927 in Lyons, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Lex Mears and Bessie Mae Waggoner Mears. She received her education in the Lyons schools. Sarah and Gerald Lewis Roggentien were united in marriage on August 2, 1948 in Marengo, Iowa. The couple raised their family in the Williamsburg community, where Sarah was a mother and homemaker, along with working with the school lunch program for many years. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, worked at Sock’s Galore, and the Hanesbrands store for 20 years, retiring at age 85. Sarah enjoyed crocheting, and was a loyal Indiana Hoosiers fan. Her family was so very important to her and she cherished every moment spent with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sarah was a member of the Church of Christ in Iowa City. Sarah had resided in Marengo for the last 18 months, to be closer to her daughter.
