Maynard Saylor, age 84, of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 20, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 19, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his daughter Patti Nelson and husband Roger of Montezuma; grandchildren, Tammy Nelson of Tiffin, Eric Nelson of Brooklyn, and Sheri Sharer (Bart) of Montezuma; and three great grandchildren, Kane, Jadyn and Clark; and several nieces and nephews. He dearly loved each and every member of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marcella in 2008, and two brothers, Pat Saylor and Bob Saylor.
Harold Maynard Saylor was born June 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Harold “Bud” and Ferne Mowrey Saylor. He attended the Brooklyn schools and later received his GED from Kirkwood Community College in 1972. Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He married Marcella Ann Christian on February 10, 1951 in Brooklyn. Following his military service, Maynard returned to Brooklyn, was employed by the City of Brooklyn as the Public Works Director for 35 years, and then Northway Well and Pump for a year before retiring.
Maynard enjoyed fishing in earlier years. He was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casinos. He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post #294.
