Lovell M. Slaymaker, age 73 of Marengo, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017.
Memorial Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 24, 2017, First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Lisa Crow officiating. Inurnment will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lovell is survived by a daughter, Lanette Martinson of Euless, TX; two sons, Steven (Lori) Slaymaker of Marengo and Jeffrey (Kim) Slaymaker of Belle Plaine; five grandchildren, Kaitlin Martinson of Euless, TX, Rachel Slaymaker of Cedar Rapids, Gretchen Slaymaker of Marengo, and Tyler Hartz and Zacary Slaymaker of Belle Plaine. Also surviving are three sisters Violet Anderson (Marvin), June Schwertfeger and Rose Frondle, all of Marengo.
Lovell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don in 2016, a grandson Jason Harrelson, a sister Velma Birch, and five brothers, Alfred, Jerry, Don and Bob Starkweather, and one in infancy.
Lovell Marie Starkweather was born January 5, 1944 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Nora Stanton Starkweather. She attended and graduated from the Marengo schools and married Donald Slaymaker on September 24, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo. Lovell worked as a job coordinator with REA—Rural Employment Alternatives in Conroy.
Lovell loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. She looked forward to family vacations and visits from the great grand dogs, Shadow and Jacky.
