Catherine Mae Smith, age 94, of Blairstown, died Thursday morning, August 7, 2014 at the Keystone Care Center, Keystone, Iowa. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 11, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday after 9:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Keystone Care Center.
Catherine is survived by her husband Kenneth; two daughters, Sandra Cerveny of Flossmoor, IL, and Lea Longfellow (Bill) of Alburnett, IA; four grandchildren, Jeremy Cerveny (Sandi), Kelly Conrad (Sean), Sarah Longfellow and Rachel Longfellow; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Ryan and Hayden; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Russell Parry, a sister Rachel Knock, and a son-in-law Harold Cerveny.
Catherine Mae Parry was born July 4, 1920 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of William Parry and Ethel Shaull Parry. She graduated from Marengo High School, and married Kenneth Melvin Smith on January 10, 1947 in Ladora, Iowa. Catherine worked at the movie theatre in Marengo, and later was employed as a bank clerk at the Benton County Savings Bank in Blairstown.
Catherine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and recently had been a member of the Blairstown Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
