James Lee Uden, age 76 of Marengo, Iowa, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 21, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, IA. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Sunday January 20, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
James is survived by his wife Esther of Marengo; two sons, Joel Uden (Deb) of Coralville and Jeff Uden (Nancy) of Hudson; two daughters, Cheryl Zumbach (Kevin) of Dubuque and Julie Engelken of Ankeny; also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Megan Uden , Jenna Uden, Carrie (Ryan) Frasher, Sarah Wolf, Brian Wolf, Josh Engelken Gabrielle Engelken, Justi Uden, Trey Uden Alan Zirtzman (Jessie), and Amy Zirtzman. Eleven great-grandchildren; one brother Melvin Uden of Ocheyedan and a sister Joann Radunz of Ocheyedan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sandra and eight brothers and sisters.
James Lee Uden was born November 6, 1936 in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the son of Ellsworth and Marie Meyer Uden. James married Esther Stock on June 16, 1957 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. James worked at the ERTL Toy Company and EMCO in management and manufacturing quality. He served as an elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Delaware . He served on the city council of Earlville as well as mayor and was a member of Toast Masters International. James enjoyed watching the activities of his children and grandchildren and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
