Betty Ann Waters, age 87 of Amana, died Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Marengo Memorial Hospital. A private family funeral service will be held Monday, February 8, 2016 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa. Burial will be at the South Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa.
Betty Ann Waters is survived by three daughters: Terri Kajewski of Algona, Iowa; Linda (Doug) Hein of Stillwater MN; Debbie (Carl) Ehrmann of Amana; two sisters, Gladys (David) Winter, Marshalltown, Wilma (Larry) Rettig, South Amana; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law Harold Reihman of Richmond, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Shirley Reihman, and a son-in-law Mike Kajewski.
Betty Shoup was born November 25, 1928 in South Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Carrie Geiger Shoup. She graduated from the Amana Schools in 1947, then attended the University of Iowa where she earned her degree in Psychology and Sociology. She married William Waters February 10, 1951, and later divorced. Betty was a talented homemaker, incredible seamstress and loving mother. She worked for the Dickinson County Department of Human Services for 26 years as a social worker, eventually becoming the director. In her retirement, she worked at the Amana Heritage Society Museum for 10 years. Betty was a member of the Amana Heritage Society and the Amana Arts Guild. She enjoyed being outside with her flowers, was a world traveler, and was a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Most of all, Betty loved spending time with her family.
