Evelyn Larraine Wauters, age 93, of Brooklyn, died Sunday, February 21, 2016, at the Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Fr. Brian Shepley and Fr. Philip Ryan officiating. Visitation: 4 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Carol) Wauters, State Center; two daughters Connie (Harold) McLaughlin, Ames, Leejean Wauters (Craig Bernhardt), Garland, TX; two sisters Harriet Bruggeman, Victor, Joan De Rycke Lambka, LaGrange Park, IL; five grandchildren Cary (Andra) Wauters, La Crescenta, CA, Michael (Kim) McLaughlin, Allen, TX, Kelly (Kevin) Holtz, Port Orange, FL, Tim (Lisa) McLaughlin, Chicago, IL, and Patrick (Jennifer) McLaughlin, Houston, TX; Ten Great-Grandchildren Matthew, Samantha, Andrew, Katherine, Aaron, Phoebe, Jack, Emma, Courtney and Megan. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Albert.
Evelyn DeRycke was born July 7, 1922 in Hartwick, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Mary LaKose DeRycke. She received her education in the Hartwick Community Schools and graduated in 1940. Evelyn was united in marriage June 5, 1943, to Albert Wauters in Camp Claiborne, LA. She was a member of the Hartwick Fire Women and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking, tending to her flower gardens and playing cards.
