Doris Ann Weiss, age 86, of Williamsburg, formerly of Marengo, died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at the English Valley Care Center, North English. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Gary Sears officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband Eldon; daughter Tammy (Darryl) Vogt of Noble, OK, and Ann Kjos of Williamsburg; son Glen of Williamsburg; 4 grandchildren, Mandi (Eric) Niebes Lueck, of Kalona; Melissa (Reg) Niebes Zeller, of Minneapolis, MN, Sara Kjos of Winona, MN, Nicholas Vogt of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Lorelei Lueck. Also surviving are her brother Bill (Dorothy) Furler and a sister Vivian Hinrichs, all of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Doris Ann Furler was born November 26, 1929, in Conroy, Iowa, the daughter of Gottfried and Elizabeth Borlin Furler. She graduated from Conroy Hilton High School in 1947 and married Eldon Walter Weiss on May 8, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. The couple were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo since 1955. They farmed in Iowa County for many years. Later she worked as an CNA at Rose Haven Nursing Home. She served on the altar guild and with Ladies Aid at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She enjoyed softball games and roller skate dancing with her husband, Eldon. In her youth she enjoyed playing 6 on 6 basketball.
