Theo F. Zscherny, age 90, of Williamsburg, formerly of Middle Amana, Iowa, died Monday, May 27 2013 at Marengo Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Middle Amana Community Church with Elder Peter Hoehnle presiding. Burial will be in the Middle Amana Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Middle Amana Church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Theo is survived by his wife Lorraine; a son Michael Zscherny (Barbara) of Ely; a daughter Constance Bahr (Kenny) of Goshen, IN; six grandchildren, Jason Bahr of Fort Dodge, Andrew Bahr of Santa Barbara, CA, Tiffany Arnett (Jason) of Fort Wayne, IN, Lisa Brown (William) of Cedar Rapids, Amy Fulkerson (Dennis) of Lisbon, and Chad Zscherny (Joy) of Des Moines; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Minnie Metz Zscherny, a sister Leona Hill and a brother Henry.
Theodore Ferdinand Zscherny was born January 7, 1923 in Amana, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Minnie Metz Zscherny. He attended the Amana schools and served in the U.S. Marine Corp for three years, stationed in San Diego, and the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. Upon his return, Theo was employed by Iowa Steel and Iron Works, the Amana Woolen Mill and then worked at Amana Refrigeration for 22 years, retiring in 1988.
Theo married Lorraine Schaedlich on November 29, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The couple resided in Middle Amana, until recently when they moved to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.
He enjoyed baseball and football, and stamp and coin collecting. He also enjoyed gardening. He also made stocking caps for the homeless veterans. He was a member of the Amana Church Society, the Amana Heritage Society, and the Marengo American Legion Post # 76.
