Carrell E. Bunn, age 80 of Grinnell, formerly of Brooklyn, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services: 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Pastor Mona Burns officiating. Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, January 28, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or the BGM Schools Scholarship Fund- Class of 1951.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn; four children, Brian Bunn (Vicki) of Des Moines, JoEllen McCoy (Michael) of Clive, Suzanne Bunn of Boise, ID, and Andrew Bunn of Grinnell; five grandchildren, Ryan McCoy (Amanda) of Clive, Samantha Mathews (Nick) of Des Moines, Christy Boley (Jered) of Waukee, Rachelle Johnson (Mike) of Maple Grove, MN, and Sean Bunn of Des Moines; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Ruth Helm of Boone, Jim Bunn (Mickie) of Illinois City, IL and Donnie Bunn of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Cassandra Bunn, three sisters and four brothers.
Carrell Edward Bunn was born May 20, 1932 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of John Carol Bunn and Tressie Mae Wheeler Bunn. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1951 and attended Upper Iowa University. Carrell served in the U.S. Navy for four years, stationed in Guam, and Fallon, NV. He married Evelyn Mae Jones on March 27, 1956 in Niles, Michigan. He was employed in the publishing business, working at Look magazine, Peterson Publishing Company, and CBS Publishing. He also worked with C.D.S. He finished his career as president and publisher at Stover Publishing.
Carrell enjoyed all sports, fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, bowling, camping and antiques. He was a member of the VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and Junior Achievement. He worked with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and also served on the Little League Board of Directors.
