Marlene C. Gorsch, age 85 of Marengo, Iowa, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, February 10, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her sons, Carroll Jr. “Skip” (Harry Soppe) of Marengo, Terry of Hubbard and Denny (Rose) of Chelsea; nine grandchildren, Trevor Gorsch (Sarah), Tara Jo Gorsch (Alex DeVries), Kori Gorsch Beck, Kelly Gorsch Jenney (Justin), Kasie Gorsch (Cyle Bowers), Dustin Gorsch (Megan), Dylan Gorsch-Soppe, Taylor Gorsch, and Alicia Gorsch-Soppe; eleven great-grandchildren, Autumn Gorsch, Hunter Gorsch, Jared Jenney, Kaleb Gorsch, Wyatt Beck, Madison Jenney, Megan Gorsch, Skylar Beck, Chase Bowers, Raelyn Gorsch, and Nicole Jenney; a sister in law, Bernice Bauler of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carroll Sr. in 2012, and three brothers, Elmer Bauler in infancy, Joseph “Doty” Bauler and Wilmer “Mick” Bauler and wife Dorothy.
Marlene Catherine Bauler was born September 17, 1928 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Anna Weber Bauler. She graduated from St. Mary’s of Mount Carmel, Eagle Center, Iowa, with the Class of 1946, and married Carroll Gorsch on January 6, 1951 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa County for many years. She also worked at the Koszta Store, now “Boone’s”. Marlene was a member of the Happy Homemakers, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, and the Marengo Bowling League. She enjoyed baking and cooking, but loved to play bingo, bowl, and play pepper with her family and friends. She also worked the Gazette puzzle page on a daily basis.
