Walter A. Stanerson, age 89, of Conroy, Iowa, died Friday, March 21, 2014 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, following a lengthy illness. Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 12, 2014, First Lutheran Church, Conroy with Rev. Don K. Dovre officiating. Inurnment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends after 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 12, at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Walter is survived by his daughters, Denise Jones (Terry) of Omaha, NE, Cheryl Boyer (Robert) of West Bend, WI, and Vicki Cave (Don) of Omaha; six grandchildren, Aaron Jones (Melissa Moehring), Kali Jones, Hannah Boyer, Matthew Boyer, Justin Cave and Maggie Cave; and a great-granddaughter, Hadley Mae Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae on April 10, 2001, two brothers, Ed and Art and two sisters, Helen Overbaugh and Ethel Hartz.
Walter Alex Stanerson was born August 23, 1924 in Conroy, Iowa, the son of Staner Stanerson and Helen Mae Groesbeck Stanerson. He attended the Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy and graduated with the Class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force for 18 months. Walter and Mae Helen Ollis were united in marriage on August 12, 1952 in Calcutta, Ohio. The couple made their home and raised their family in Conroy where Walt co-owned and operated Stanerson Garage and Oil for many years.
Walt enjoyed woodworking and stained glass work in his free time. He also liked music, and was an avid Cubs fan. He was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church in Conroy.
