George “Ervin” Walters, age 81, of Marengo died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, First United Methodist Church, Marengo, Iowa. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 18, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Rose Haven Activity Fund or the Marengo Memorial Hospital.
Ervin is survived by his daughters, Lina Rae Busse (Jim) of West Chester, Ohio, and Pam Huedepohl (Mark) of Shelbyville, KY; two granddaughters, Brittani Busse of Houston, TX, and Bethani Bradley (Stephen) of Wake Forest, NC; a great-granddaughter Evelyn Rae; and a sister Darlene Bral of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn in 2004, and siblings, Lena Bigbee, Baunetta Watson, Iris Siske, and Clarice and Farel in infancy.
George Ervin Walters was born October 12, 1931 in Monmouth, Kansas, the son of George and Lina Scales Walters. He attended the Kansas, Marengo and Ladora schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, stationed at Camp Roberts, in California. He continued in service to his country in the Reserves until 1960. He married Marilyn “Red” Knock on March 16, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo. Ervin farmed with his father in the Ladora, Brooklyn and Hartwick areas until his retirement in 1995. He has resided in Marengo since. Ervin was a member of First United Methodist, Marengo, and the Ladora American Legion.
