Janet L. Korns, age 80 of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 26, 2018, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. Joyce Proctor officiating.  Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, January 25, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by her children, Darla (Timothy) Ingersoll, Mark (Kayleen) Rhinehart, all of Brooklyn, Steven (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Grinnell; step-children, Sherry Korns-Johnson, and Charles Korns both of Brooklyn, and Angie (Joel) Bayer of Victor; 14 grandchildren, Brandi (Jon) King of California, Travis Wilson (Amanda Wagner) of Wisconsin, Cody (Alexis) Wilson, Nick Wilson (Taylor Burnham), Kaden Rhinehart, all of Brooklyn, Isaac, Gianna and Soleil Rhinehart of Grinnell; Amanda Johnson, and Brettney Korns of Cedar Rapids, Blain Kupka of Waterloo, Calvin Korns of Hiawatha, and William and Owen Bayer of Victor; 7 great-grandchildren, Teagen King, Jadeyn King and Addalyn King, all of California, Easton Wilson of Brooklyn, Payton Wilson of Brooklyn and Graham Wilson of Brooklyn, and Silas Boyer of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are her siblings, Barbara Gensley of Victor, Charles (Susan) Cronbaugh of Marengo, Mary Schwab-Gerard (Jake) of Belle Plaine, Robert (Connie) Cronbaugh of Marengo, Doris Hawkins of Marengo, and Gary (Taryn) Cronbaugh of Grinnell; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William Korns, two daughters, Connie Rhinehart and Janice Korns, two sisters in infancy, a brother Celaine, granddaughter Jenny Korns, a brother-in-law Larry Gensley, and a son-in-law Steve Johnson.

Janet L. Cronbaugh was born May 21, 1937, the daughter of Cecil and Maxine Stowell Cronbaugh.  She received her education in the Honeycreek Township school and graduated from the Marengo High School in 1955.  Janet married Richard Rhinehart on November 3, 1956 at the Church of the Brethren, Brooklyn. To this union four children were born, Darla, Connie, Mark and Steven. The couple later divorced. She married William Korns on March 3, 1973 at her home in Brooklyn. He passed away in 2005.

Janet worked for a short time at Amana Refrigeration, as office personnel. She then was employed at Poweshiek County Savings in Brooklyn until her retirement in 1999. She also served as a hostess for Nevenhoven Funeral Home for several years. Janet was an active member of her church community, serving as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer on the Board and a delegate to the district conference for the Church of the Brethren. She played piano for services, and was a member of the Ladies Aid.  She continued her church life as an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, where she was a member of the G.E.M.S.

Janet enjoyed gardening, canning, and reading in her spare time.  She liked to play piano and sing. Her life revolved around her family and she cherished the many family gatherings and activities. She especially enjoyed her grand and great-grandchildren.
