Delmar C. Ford

Delmar C. Ford, age 91, of Brooklyn, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, under hospice care at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.  Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Malcom, with Pastor Catherine Burroughs officiating.  Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation:  4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.  Memorial funds can be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Camp Courageous in Monticello.

Delmar is survived by his wife Arlene of 65 years; four children Larry (Denise) Ford, Loren (Sharon) Ford, Hank (Sherry) Ford, Susie (Daryl) Brau; six grandchildren Chris (Jenna) Ford, Nicki (Andy) Miller, Stefanie and Elliot Ford, Danny and Scott Brau; four great grandchildren Tatum and Korbin Ford, Riley and Addisyn Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his siblings Verna Fry, Mary Ott, Harold Ford, Virginia McCabe, Rita Peabody, Nora DiFelice, Wilma Clausen, and Jean Saunders, and two great grandchildren Hayden and Carter Miller.

Delmar was born September 4, 1927, on the farm northeast of Kalona, the son of Lester and Loretta Michael Ford.  He went to grade school in Luzerne and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1946.  Delmar and his brother Harold worked at two local implement dealers as mechanics.  Following Harold’s passing, Delmar became a self-employed farmer, farm machinery mechanic and lawn mower dealer.  He served on ASCS County Committee for several terms.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council.  Delmar was also a former member of the Brooklyn Fire Department.  He was a great high school athlete and enjoyed family gatherings and restoring old tractors.  Delmar participated in over 20 WHO Tractor Rides.
