Virginia P. Dunton

Virginia P. Dunton, age 92, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.  Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Rev. Eddie Thomas officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until service time at 11:00 a.m., at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery, rural Thornburg, at 2:00 p.m., Friday December 2, 2022. A memorial fund has been established.  Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

     Virginia is survived by her children, Suzanne Handy, Patricia Baugh (Gene Schropp) and Bill Dunton; 14 grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd Sr,. in May 1993; three children, Phyllis Schropp, Lloyd “Buddy” Dunton, Jr., and Robert Dunton; two twin granddaughters, Connie and Cathy Schropp and a great-grandson, Jonathon Williams.

     Virginia Phyllis Wagamon was born May 12, 1930, near Keota, the daughter of James and Silvia (Webster) Wagamon. She received her education in the country schools in Thornburg.  Virginia was a member of Windham Community Church in Oxford and later became a member of the Nazarene Church in Marengo.  She was united in marriage to Lloyd Dunton, Sr. in 1946.  Of this union, they were blessed with six children.  Virginia was employed at various places.  She worked at the Oskaloosa Continental Overall Factory and at the Singer Sewing Company, in Iowa City. Virginia was also a well known seamstress and made beautiful custom draperies at home, with the help from her daughters.  She worked at the Woolen Mill in Amana from 1971-1984, running the weaving machine.  Lastly, Virginia worked at La Rey’s Cleaners in Marengo. Virginia was always an encouraging person and a woman of her faith.  She enjoyed cross stitching, embroidery, making afghans, dolls and quilts.  Her cooking and baking was well received by her family.
