Dale Riley Lippincott
Dale Riley Lippincott, age 98, of Grinnell, formally of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Mayflower Health Center in Grinnell, Iowa, with his wife, Helen, at his side. Services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, Iowa at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2023, with Rev. John Dodds officiating. The family will greet family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors, will be at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, or a local community organization of choice. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Dale was born February 23, 1925, in Brooklyn, Iowa to Samuel Ray and Agnes Belle (Douglass) Lippincott. Following the deaths of his parents, at age 16, Dale was welcomed into the loving home of Walter and Abbie Wagner until graduation from Brooklyn High School in 1944. One day after graduation, Dale entered service to his country with the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in the Admiralty Islands in the Pacific Theater. After his World War II military service, Dale married Helen Nelson on March 23, 1946. The devoted couple of 77 years lived in Brooklyn most of their lives, where they raised their 3 children, Donna, Joyce and John Dale. He was an 81-year member of Grace United Methodist Church and 63-year member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge of Brooklyn. He was also a 76-year member of American Legion Post #294.
His family was always most important to Dale, and they brought him great joy throughout his life. He and Helen supported their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities, traveling many miles to enjoy football, basketball, baseball, and soccer games, track and wrestling meets and a variety of musical performances and recitals. Dale will be remembered for his kind heart, helpful spirit, boundless energy and exemplary work ethic. Dale never knew a stranger, greeting all with a friendly wave or warm hello.
Dale was employed by the TIP Rural Electric Cooperative for 42 years as a lineman and eventually, Brooklyn Operations Supervisor, retiring in 1989.
Survivors remaining to honor Dale’s memory are his loving wife, Helen; daughters, Donna (Melvin) Beck, Grinnell; Joyce (Donald) Paynter, Cedar Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Chad (Gina) Beck, Grinnell; Brent (Jodee) Beck, Cedar Rapids; Natalie (Eric) Pavey, Grinnell; Thomas (Elizabeth) Paynter, Eagle River, Alaska; Bradley (Lindsay) Paynter, Chattanooga, Tennessee; 11 great grandchildren, Brody (Josie) Beck, Brock Beck, Malynn Pavey, Kayne Pavey, all of Grinnell; Brielle Phifer (Joshua), Ankeny; Riley Beck, Chicago, Carley Beck, Cedar Rapids; Brandon Paynter and Ashlyn Paynter, Eagle River, AK; Ansel Paynter and Eleanor Paynter, Chattanooga, Tennessee; 2 great-great granddaughters, Ivey Beck, and Nora Beck, Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dale in death were son John Dale, his parents, five brothers and seven sisters.
