David Lee Dietrich was born January 25, 1940, on the family farm in the Pilot Township west of Williamsburg, the son of Elmer August and Vera Peirce Dietrich. He attended the Pilot Center Country School through 8th grade. David graduated from Williamsburg high school in 1958, the first class to graduate from the new school. David was united in marriage to Deloris Simpson on September 5, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, serving on the Board of Education and the Board of Church Properties. He also served on the Gateway Coop Board of Directors in Conroy. David spent his life farming, raising crops, and livestock until 2004. His son Paul farmed alongside him and continues today. He loved attending classic car shows and was a member of the local Iowa County Rod Hawks and Classy Chassy Cruisers. A special joy for David was working on cars with his grandson Justin. He was especially proud of the homemade camper that he and his family traveled in, visiting many different states. This camper still remains in the family. David will be missed by all those who loved him.
