Tommy Lee Patterson

 Tommy Lee Patterson, age 70, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at his home.  Tommy was also known as “Digger” to many of his friends and “Papa Digger” to his grandsons.

     A memorial Jam Session to honor Tommy’s memory will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Aces & Eights Saloon, in Czech Village, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  The Jam Session will be hosted by Clint from the band Koop and Company.  The gathering is planned to be a potluck.  Casual attire is suggested.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom’s name to Dogs Forever, 809 Rockford Road S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

The family of Tom Patterson wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Jeff Mattison and Clint Koerperich for all of their assistance. 

      Tom is survived by his wife Julie; two children Alex and Lenore Zoll, of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren Hunter Zoll and Sonny Bowers; a brother Jack (Micky) of Marengo; a mother-in-law Sue Mills of Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister-in-law Jennifer Bollman of Covina, California; a brother-in-law Jeff Mills, of Las Vegas, Nevada; a niece Stacy; three nephews Robby, Gregory and Brad; numerous other relatives and friends; and his three dogs Sophie, Allie and Emma.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a father-in-law Don Mills and a sister-in-law Jill Mills.

      Tommy Lee Patterson was born August 5, 1949 in Marengo, the son of Duane and Phyllis (Ramsell) Patterson.  He graduated in 1968 from Iowa Valley High School and continued his education at Kirkwood Community College and Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids where he received his Bachelor Degree in Education.  He married Judy Olson and the couple later divorced.  On September 5, 1999 he married Julie Mills in Solon and the couple made their homes in California and the Cedar Rapids area.  Tom was a teacher for many years and later worked as a maintenance engineer.  He was a self taught bass player and played in several bands since he was a teenager.  Tom loved music and enjoyed playing both rock and country.  At the time of his passing, he played for the band Koop and Company.
